While most missions in of Gears Tactics use tiles and a procedural system, certain missions like this Act 1 Finale were highly authored. As a result this gave us the opportunity to push visuals and build a more unique level.
The bridge allowed us to introduce depth, scale and motion with the waterfall, while also providing us it a very clear linear path for the players.
This level was one of the first ones created for the game and went through many changes and iterations, since it is the first boss battle in the game and also a big reveal moment. I was involved from the very beginning, visualising how a Boss fight in a tactics game could play out, until the end, providing overpaints and feedback to the various disciplines working on this. It was an great iterative and collaborative experience and I learned a lot during the process.
