These are concepts for Act 2 of the game where the player will travel to the region of VASGAR. This was planned from the beginning as a tie in with Gears 5, in which players will visit Vasgar, after many years of cataclysmic events changed it from a once beautiful coastal region to a red desert wasteland.
One of the biggest challenges for this tie in came from the difference in gameplay and camera position between the two game. Initially we wanted to show large imposing buildings, but quickly realised that this was less than ideal for top down gameplay. As a result we opted to show the more rural side of Vasgar - villages build into steep coastal cliffs that provided depth and motion for visual interest and more clarity for gameplay.
